Pride has always been more than just a parade. It's a vibrant celebration of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and a way for us to be united in our values of being a more equitable, diverse, and progressive city.

Today, I presented the #PrideWeek Proclamation to Michelle Fortin, co-chair of the Vancouver Pride Society, to recognize the equality, diversity, and unique contributions of the 2SLGBTQ+ community to our city.

I’d also like to thank Travis Angus from Vancouver Native Cultural Society for opening today’s ceremonies.

So great to have representatives from the 3 host nations join us for today's #PrideWeek launch and proclamation. Thank you to Two-spirit Squamish Nation councillor Orene Askew a.k.a DJ O Show, Tsleil-Waututh councillor Charlene Aleck, and Vanessa Campbell & Mack Paul from Musqueam Indian Band for joining us.

While celebrating with the entire community isn't quite happening this summer, there are plenty of events lined up by the team
Vancouver Pride. From virtual to COVID-friendly in-person events, we can show our Pride and join the festivities:

You can also spend time celebrating local artists and their work by taking a stroll through Pride Art Walk! It’s a self-guided tour of five public art pieces and murals celebrating the LGBTQ2+ community in Downtown Vancouver.
