Leadership on climate change

Join us to participate in an online panel discussion with experts and community leaders to discuss big ideas that will move Vancouver forward for all of us.

This panel will look at the local impacts of climate change and how the City can help move us closer to a sustainable future and improve the lives of residents at the same time.

Alvin Singh

Alvin Singh is Forward Vancouver’s volunteer communications director and an advocate for equity and sustainability. Alvin has worked in policy and communications roles at all three levels of government, as well as for non-profit and for-profit ventures. His previous roles include National Communications Manager for the David Suzuki Foundation where he worked to secure a constitutional right to live in a healthy environment.

Alex Boston


Renewable Cities executive director and SFU Centre for Dialogue Fellow Alex Boston has two decades of experience in community climate action with unique expertise in land use and multi-criteria analysis, engagement and knowledge mobilization. He has led multiple award-winning community energy plans recognized for innovative carbon modelling and mapping, and implementation readiness. He is deeply interested in systemic solutions that integrate action climate, affordability, value for dollar public investment and economic development.

Dr. Melissa Lem


Dr. Melissa Lem is a Vancouver family physician who also works in rural and northern communities within Canada. Director of PaRx -- Canada’s national nature prescription program, powered by the BC Parks Foundation -- and president-elect of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, she is an internationally recognized leader in the field of nature and health.

Liz McDowell 

Liz McDowell is the Senior Campaigns Director Director at Stand.earth where, since joining the team in 2017, she's helped campaigns develop digital strategies to engage more than 700,000 people and reach corporate and government decision-makers in innovative and unexpected ways. She also oversees Canadian oil and gas campaigns strategy and Canadian forests campaigns, and helps local governments transition off fossil fuels as part of the SAFE Cities Campaign.
