Mayor Kennedy Stewart promised to triple the EHT to 3% and in November of 2020, did just that. Since 2018, the city of Vancouver has seen a 26% reduction in empty properties while generating $146M in revenues for affordable housing.

From day one, Mayor Kennedy Stewart's focus was on bending the market towards homes more residents could afford. Since then, he has approved a record number of rentals, and social housing. Mayor Kennedy Stewart tripled the EHT and helped reduce empty homes by 26% while generating $146M in revenues for affordable housing. He also reached a landmark deal to renew and build more co-op housing across the City. And in January of 2022, Council passed MakingHOME, Kennedy Stewart's plan to build 10,000 new homes the middle-class can afford.
